I often have people ask me where they should blog. As much as I love Multiply, I know that not everyone clicks with that site the way I do. So I'm here to do a little "comparison shopping" to get a sense of Typepad so I can get a better sense of what type of folks it might be a good fit for.
If you're a Typepad addict and want to give me thoughts on what you love about this place, feel free to blather away in the comments section. (That'll give me a better sense of how comments work here as well.)
Video: It looks like I can import from elsewhere, but I don't see a way to upload a video directly from my computer to this page. If there is a way, please let me know. I'd also be curious to know the size/time limits on video uploads if there are any.
Photos: Oh, I like the ability to pick the display size of the photos I upload. That's very handy - especially for folks who aren't familiar with html. It looks like you can only upload one photo at a time, which means sharing a few photos a day or a post will work well. Sharing an entire album of photos will best be done elsewhere. (Hmm, weird. I bolded the word "video" with no problems using the B for bold. But it wouldn't work on the word "photos". I had to do that via html. I wonder if that's a bug related to the photo insert.)
Insert File: Download A rebellious nation 3 Oh, I like that I can insert a link to a file right in the midst of the text. I don't like that I can't tell it's a file and not just a link to another page. I wonder if that will look different when I'm out of edit mode. (no problem bolding this time.)
Audio File: Hmm, I've uploaded an audio file, but I can't see how to play it when I'm in edit mode. I'll have to check on that later. I didn't see any copyright warning. I wonder how much music sharing goes on in Typepad.
Formatting: It looks like most of the formatting buttons are pretty standard for blogging sites, but there are a few that I don't generally see elsewhere: remove formatting, strikethrough, subscript and superscript and indent paragraph. The quoting function is nice also. I wonder if the comment section has that also.
OK, now to test out the comments....
What am I missing? I wasn't able to comment on my own blog post when I was signed into Typepad? I actually have to sign in to some OTHER SITE in order to comment here? What in the world?!!!! Yeah, that's handy for everyone else who might not want to join TypePad, but if I've already joined, why couldn't I reply? I must be missing something. Bizarre.

OK, I've seen the ability to sign in with a Typepad account. The oddity is that I was already signed in with my Typepad account and then had to sign in a second time to be able to comment.
I find that freakishly bizarre.
